Thats quite a cool idea....but how do they stop the staff binning them...might mention this to a few of my customers who want to know what to do with their old books to make a difference from the usual Oxfam idea

I belong to this one.

I have also donated books to my local library, who were delighted to receive them.  I only donate hardbacks or good as new paperbacks though.

I really like this idea, the problem is that I'm a bit anal about looking after books and I'd get nervous that after having left a work on a table in some cafe that it was going to get either mis-treated or get flung away at close of business  Shocked

I'd probably get half way down the street then have to leg it back again to either make sure that it was still ok or take it back  Undecided

I've now joined BookCrossing with a vengeance!

I'm releasing a crate load of books at our village show in a fortnight.

I've also joined their Forum.

But SN is still my home. Smiley

Yes - you just need to put a little note on the front of it, saying "TRAVELLING BOOK.  I'm not lost, I'm on a journey.  Pick me up, read and release me!"

Marshal was hit by a Random Act of BookCrossing Kindness (RABCK)  Smiley

I left a book registered on BookCrossing on the train yesterday morning and by last night, it had been picked up and registered by someone else!  I was so excited.

Especially as they've told me they are going to read it then leave it on the Eurostar - it could go all over Europe!

Of my crate load of books released at the village show (around 40) only one was registered by someone else.  Sad

I'm bumping this topic!

I'm still a very active member of BookCrossing and have joined a number of Reading Challenges on their Book Talk forum - it's been a great way to discover new authors.  I did the Olympic Challenge, which is to read something by an author from every country entering the Olympics (over 200!).  I didn't quite finish (I think I was about 9 countries short in the end), but it was great fun and I discovered some overseas authors I would never have considered previously.

I'm also swapping books with people around the world!

Excuse the zealousness of this post but I lead a quiet life   Embarrassed

When you say an author from 200 different countries, i'm assuming they were all in English?
You didn't have to learn all the languages too!!

Of course - I now speak fluent Uzbek, Fijian and Serbo-Croat. Grin

If you'd heard me struggling to tell the time in Italian last night, you'd know they were all translated into English!  I did read some poetry in French, though.  I tried to read a simple poem in Spanish, but gave up and e-mailed it to my penfriend in Buenos Aires, who translated it for me.

One book I got sent was a parallel text - English on one page and the original Lao on the other, but even their alphabet is completely beyond me.
