I'm sorry about this as well Widow - that passprt must be of some sentimental value to you.

If it was mine and did show up the odds of me posting it to immigration would be somewhat less that those experienced by a snowball in a gas over  Tongue

Yes, I think it might accidentally get misfiled somewhere...... it's not like I could use it (and it's due to expire next year anyway).  I don't hold out great hopes of it turning up though.

It's about £80 for a new one - grrrr! Angry

My new passport (a mere £77.50 + the cost of photos) has arrived.

And we've booked flights to Italy in April.  Hurray!  Now just have to find somewhere to stay - trying to persuade my friend that my dream of a hilltop Tuscan farmhouse is not unreasonable....

Guess what's turned up?!  It looks like next week I shall be reunited with my old passport, complete with lovely stamps and visas (before I post it back to the Home Office of course....)*

We're still not quite sure where it's been or where it went missing - it looks like it might not have been at the Post Office after all, but either at the Embassy or with the DX courier service who were supposed to return them to us.

Or with Mossad, of course.  I shall be inspecting it carefully for any stamps of countries I've never visited!

* I'll send it off just after I've finished roasting those snowballs.

speaking of passports the price i found went way up..plus the price for a PR card..
we used to have to send to the British High Commission in Ottowa for ours..but the other year i found out all changed and for some reason passport renewals were having to be sent to Washington DC..well..not only did the price go up along with paying for speical posting we were told to make the payment in US funds..Boo to that we said and opted for our Canadian Citizenship..now passport costs around $80.. Smiley

so all in all Widow you are still going to lose your passport ?
will the Home Office keep it ?

Lips Sealed

On a completely separate note, I came out of the front of Winchester railway station this evening and nearly bumped into Kate Silverton of BBC News.  She looked very glam (but with very thick make-up).  There was no film crew with her - she was just standing outside, making a call on her mobile phone.

I can't imagine what newsworthy item might have brought her here - there was certainly nothing on the 6pm news! Any ideas, anyone?

It's not true that pigeons always get out of the way of oncoming cars.  I hit one yesterday.

Okay, Dick!

We were across at Inverness & Wick recently and, driving along an open piece of road near Wick, at about 5 in the morning, a suicidal deer suddenly leapt out from a dip at the side of the road and was (unintentionally on our part) dispatched by my brother.

We moved its remains (it was killed instantly, thankfully) off the road and carried on... passed by the same stretch of road a bit later on in the morning and there was another deer not far away been dispatched by another driver since our one! That bit of road must be like Beachy Head for deers!

A few days later, back in Orkney, an owl had a lucky escape as it flew across our path, its tail end just being clipped by the driver's side headlights. It lived to tell the tale though (we think... at least we didn't see a body anywhere).

The next week... another owl had a lucky escape as we swerved to avoid it!

What is it about my brother's car? Every wild animal wants to meet its end by it!

Did anyone see the fight at the end of yesterday's stage on the Tour de France?  It was a proper punch up and one guy tried to hit the other with a bicycle wheel.  Love it!
